How far is it, really

Everyone asks how far it is from the airport. Nobody answers honestly, because the honest answer is: it depends which road you take and what time you leave. So here is both.

From Málaga Airport

Along the coastal A-7 · no traffic
Two roads run along this coast. The A-7 is the free coastal road — it is the one in the table above, and it is the one you will use most days. The AP-7 is the toll motorway running parallel above it; it costs a few euros and, west of Marbella, it can take fifteen to twenty minutes off the same journey. Locals use the A-7 for everyday trips and pay for the AP-7 when the flight is at seven in the morning.
And then there is traffic. These times assume a clear road. They are not what you will see at eight in the morning through Fuengirola, and they are certainly not August. Add twenty minutes at rush hour, more in high season. Treat the table as the shape of the coast, not a timetable — and if you are weighing up two areas, ask us. We drive these roads every week.

Fifteen minutes decides more than you think

The difference between a fifteen-minute and a ninety-minute run to the airport is the difference between family visiting often and family visiting once. Tell us how you plan to live here and we will tell you where it works.
